Borders and other options grayed out?

Sometimes it will not be grayed out but after adjusting one or two settings in the window it will gray out and be unusable again. I've tried downgrading to an older version of artisteer but my license just gets denied so that is a headache for another day. Does anyone have a workaround for this?
