Moscow is like New York/Boston/New England. It is a fast-paced city, and while people are friendly they are more conservative than other cities in Russia. You really don't interact with strangers as the Southern US/Midwest/west coast does, you keep to yourself unless you are conducting business or with previously established friends. You can blend in with the crowd as I did, headphones, etc are the norm. I am starting to obtain my visa through the Russian American consulting travel agency https://www.russianconsulting.com/visas_russia.html
