Can I move content position? |

I am working on a template where I need to have banner 6 displayed above the article content.
This design has the top of the page using 2/3 of the screen for one image and the other 1/3 for a side menu. They are equal height. I did this by using banner 2 and right column.
Now, I need to put the content below it so it goes across the page. But because I utilized right column position, I can't extend it. And if I use banner 6, it appears after the content.
I have tried to move the index.php code to put banner 6 above the content, but it isn't working (I could be looking in the wrong place).
