slide show forces a background color |

I am creating a slide show. Each slide in the show is really a collage of three images that I use GIMP to create. Between these three images is some transparent space. I save the images in png format without having a background color. When I load the first slide, it looks great and the cell background comes through in that space. But when I do a new slide and bring in the 2nd file, that spacing gets color. for both of my slides. Any ideas? Thanks.
