Reasons why I just bought Artisteer (instead of Themler)

I’ve read some rumours that Themler are gonna replace Artisteer, and that would be a business mistake in my opinion. I’m sorry if I misinterpreted this, but that the support are avoiding straight answers to these kind of questions worries me a bit. On the other hand, the latest version is just a couple of months old so I don’t know what to believe.

Anyway. The mainreasons why I prefer Artisteer before Themler or any other software/”site-software” for that matter:

1) I’d like to have a software accessible even after a year for instance, even though it won’t get updated until I renew (which naturally only would be necessary when the next update is available which is a time and moneysaver). Themler only accepts time limit accessing!

2) In Artisteer I’m able to change the looks and style of the site with simple mousehoverings through menus and submenus and with instant previews (color templates is great btw). IMO this is a lot more important functionality than basing everything on drag & drops for instance..
Note: In this matter Artisteer is unique as far I know, and if this will be abandoned in favour to Themler I believe that would be a mistake. Because there are already estabilished template editing sites which are doing things better than Thelmer, which now is awfully slow.

3) Working with the site at your local hard drive will be more popular in the future of integrity reasons in step with a more and more paranoid internet. For example, a few years back you didn’t have to edit your passwords to forgettable naG2F*2in4”8”!11. Also, everyone else seems to be web-based nowadays.

4) Comprehensive language support in the working environment.

That said, the only thing I would miss is the ”instant Wordpress integration” which Themler seems to do the job better now. But the ability to change the layout, colors, buttons-style and similar in such a quick way overcomes the instant WP integration. The plan is that I won’t make that kind of structure editing later in WP anyway. I don’t know but considering Themler is in beta-stage I’m yet still very doubtful if it ever will be able to operate as fast as a software on the computer, which perhaps is a WP restriction rather than Thelmer.

All these thoughts from a Mac user, which have to use VMware in order to use Artisteer. I’ve tried Ultimatum, Webflow and other stuff but of various reasons they are inferior considering what I’m looking for.

At least that’s how my thoughts go for the moment.

Thanks for reading.

Sincerely,
Chris

I kind of agree. While drag and drop is great in Photoshop because Photoshop has layers, rulers and guide lines. It's nice to be able to enter exact specifications into form fields instead of nudging things around to look right. In that aspect Themler to me is more like MS Publisher 95 than Photoshop.

Anyone understand what I'm trying to say?

I do not want to see Artisteer discontinued for many reasons.

They have to be able to get the artx files to import into this first. I would like to see both really. I have no problem paying for both either.

I tested themler early on and it was terrible but it was kind of a beta deal then.

Program responsiveness is everything in a development environment and Themler really doesn't even come close to being considered an enterprise solution.

I don't want server lag to be the reason it takes 4-5 minutes to make changes that only take 1 or 2 minutes to do in Artisteer.

Cloud based software is fine for simple applications (spreadsheets, word processors, pre-set graphic/image options) but infrastructure is just not ready for something as involved or functional as Themler is.

I only use Artisteer to build a shell now anyway and manually fix/modify as required. I don't see myself using Themler at all.

Artisteer's days are numbered and the future is Themler like it or not. Especially if you compare Artisteer's updates to Themler, it's no contest.

Themler is updated weekly.

Artisteer is updated once every few months or so it seems.

People complain that Themler is slow but it's eventually going to catch up and improve. I'm sure it will eventually surpass Artisteer. If you don't have high speed, then you're out of luck. Maybe.

It also looks like they're working on both an off-line version of Themler and an Artisteer to Themler importer. Look at this thread.

http://answers.billiondigital.com/questions/3429/themler-for-pc-windows

It's also mentioned on Themler's feature page as Desktop Off-line: Planned.

http://billionthemler.com/Features

I noticed another thread where people are refusing to update their license and stick with Artisteer 4.1. That's bad news for Artisteer. We'll eventually reach a point where everyone moves to Themler and no one's continuing their license with Artisteer. That will mean the end for Artisteer sooner than later.

Only the first half is possibly true. The second half is certainly not at least for many of us.

One door closes another opens.

If Artisteer dies something similar will then replace it...

I for one am only really against the cloud variation of this due to limitations on speed, etc. I have a very powerful computer and changes in Artisteer takes seconds for me.

However if they do indeed get a offline version and can import my artx files then maybe it's OK.

What about html? Does it create those?

I totally agree.
I love working with Artisteer when I make templates for my Joomla sites.
Artisteer has great funktionality and great support if needed. I tried to get to know Themler, but it's too slow and I don't like the cloud ideology. When I buy a programme I like to have it... for good.
I sure hope they will keep developing Artisteer, because I wouldn't spend a penny on Themler.

Me too.

So many bugs in Themler why should I make the effort to learn it?

Also, why can't software developers realise that the Microsoft Office style menu (with right click context sensitive functionality when you click on an item) is intuitive for many users?
