At the risk of sounding ignorant, what is Templatee?
I'm assuming that this is a different software from Artisteer?

Sorry, Templateer.

I wish there was an edit feature on this forum, ha.

It's an Artisteer (not wordpress) plugin that adds a lot of extra templates, functionality and features to Artisteer. It adds them on export, so you don't see much difference at the Artisteer end, but a lot of value when operating the wordpress UI. Check it out:

http://thetemplateer.com

Cool like Fonze in my opinion.

THIS IS JUNK !!! DO NOT BUY UNTIL THE ISSUES ARE RESOLVED !

Since Bud does not have a forum on this site, and does not answer his emails, I challenge him to be a man, and come here to answer some of the questions, or he can continue to be a chicken, and keep telling people that he was in an accident. What, you could not have at least an automated system replying to the emails? You could not put a one line announcement on your site? Anyway, enough about him, let's get down to business.

The templateer 4.1 took an Artisteer theme that was 263kb in zip form and managed to make it 1.79MB. When unzipped this made it close to 4MB. No slideshows, no content, and no large images here. Wow!!!

Now the good part. After testing on 2 types of localservers, I got 2 different types of CATASTROPHIC errors that crashed the sites and I had to manually delete the themes to get the sites going on again.

1. With Usbwebserver - usbwebserver.com - The error here during the theme activation was that "the connection to the localhost was interrupted". - wow... what connection? I am on a localserver.

2. With ampps - ampps.com - The error here was a parse error, when the theme was activated.

I never, ever, ever, EVER had any theme crashing a web site - NEVER !!!

In both cases to get the sites working again, I had to manually delete the theme.

Last point, the templateer has some very nice features, like the layouts and how you can control the widgets, but having the shortcodes in which blows it's size astronomically, is just plain stupid, specially that these shortcodes can be found as separate plugins for free.

Any serious wordpress designer who uses Artisteer to brew their own templates needs templateer for added functionality, but this version simply does not work! I don't know why it was released in the first place. Total waste of time unless the bugs get fixed.

Hi,

Installed and activated okay for me. It does produce a larger file from Artisteer, but on my server I just made sure I increased the max execution time and max upload size in php.ini - otherwise manual install would be needed.

Hi, John,

Try a non-Templateer theme from Artisteer 4.1 on your server to see if the same errors happen.

Hi,

So far in Templateer for 4.1:

Bound to be the odd bug - in the Theme Options the menu was sitting on top of the selections area in the browsers I tried. What I did was in the theme's "admin/assets/css/admin-style.css" approximately line 101 find:
#of_container #of-nav {

float: left;
position: relative;
z-index: 9999;
width: 190px;
}

I changed the float to right:
#of_container #of-nav {

float: right;
position: relative;
z-index: 9999;
width: 190px;
}

I couldn't get it to sit on the left so this was quick and easy, and I kind of like how it looks.

Hi Abland,

Non Artisteer themes work fine, Artisteer made themes work fine, and even Artisteer made themes exported with your plugin works fine. It could be the max execution time, I have to check, thanks for the tip. The size of this thing is unreal though...

That said, I will also try on a live server - moving away fro the localservers, and see what will happen!

Thanks Abland, you are one of the few I can depend on around here.

I'm getting errors too. Godaddy shared hosting, it uploads and activates, but when you attempt to view the site you get this.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in D:\Hosting\3115219\html\wptest\wp-content\themes\vtewp4_1F_T\sidebar-header.php on line 41

Hi,

ddye had posted a good fix for older IE browsers and Bud had added it to the Templateer. It's there in the 4.1 code but the option to turn it on is missing in the Theme Options.

To add it to a theme, in your theme's "admin/options/general.php" find approximately line 18:
$of_options[] = array(

"desc" => "Show the site slogan.",
"id" => "theme_header_show_slogan",
"std" => $theme_default_options['theme_header_show_slogan'],
"type" => "checkbox");

Below that paste:
$of_options[] = array(

"desc" => "Select for older IE compatability",
"id" => "theme_ie_compat",
"std" => $theme_default_options['theme_ie_compat'],
"type" => "checkbox");

I haven't checked to see if there was a default option set or not. This adds a check box to use the fix or not.

I also got the same error and many more ...
I'm sorry I do not speak English.

Your English is perfect Tek.

So this is what I have done so far... Tested the exported templateer theme on localservers, and also on 2 shared Godaddy environments - Windows and Linux. I made sure to test the theme on a freshly installed WP 3.51 web site, with no plugins installed, not even the default Hello dolly, etc...

At this point let me say that, the backsite works fine, I can navigate through the themes options, change the settings, etc... The problems happen on the front side, while trying to view the site- I get a white screen with the parsing error message - very frustrating because I love templateer!

So then I thought maybe there is something corrupt with my computer system, or somehow my Artisteer installation is corrupt, or another plugin is causing this, I have Abland's plugin, and his solution to add the word "Menu" for the responsive menu.

So I installed a fresh copy of Artisteer 4.1.0.59861 ON A NEW COMPUTER (we are allowed 2 installations), downloaded a fresh copy of the templateer plugin, in case the first time around, something went wrong during the download, and still the same results - even though everything was fresh - New Artisteer 4.1 Final installation on a new computer, a newly downloaded templateer v4.1 plugin, and fresh installations of WP 3.51.

I am at loss, how others are not not getting errors - I am not a newbie, but an experienced web designer, and database programmer... Any ideas what to do next would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

@nick

What happens if you try it on a non-GD host?

I've had unresolvable problems before with GD's lockdown of their php.ini. On other Hosts (Gandi, Gator etc..) I can create a custom php.ini with which to solve problems!

(this is one of the reasons i never use GD for Hosting any more. Ever)

@Nick

Perhaps its due to server side (maybe not a library installed/active)? Did you check your server error log file?

Nick,

When I was using my local server I had no problem but when I uploaded the theme I got an error similar to what you are getting.

Try uploading your theme via ftp in BINARY mode not AUTO.
Fixed the problem. Hope this helps.

Thanks Monty,

I will give it a try later on. The thing is that I was not using ftp. I was using WordPress to upload the themes. I'll post the results in a few hours...

I had the same problem. I contacted Bud and sent my theme for him to look at. He said I needed to make sure that I included a headline and slogan in my design otherwise some code gets left out when you export. The slogan and headline can be turned of in wordpress.

Everything work now.

yes, yes... YYYYYEEEESSSSS !!!!

Thanks Monty for your suggestion, but that was not the answer.

Tom, you save me from going postal !!! That was the problem - we need to have a Headline and a Slogan.

I was testing it with a theme that had no slogan... As soon as I added it - MAGIC !!!

Thank you all !

I LOVE Templateer, but I am still using Artisteer 4, until I am convinced that the bugs are gone. And Templateer works perfectly with it.

The only thing that bugs me about Artisteer 4 is that sometimes I'll make a change to a button's gradient, and it won't "stick" when I export the site. Other than that, no problems with either Artisteer 4 or Templateer at all. None.

I am usually all over updates, but this forum has convinced me to go conservative this time... I will wait to update. Let somebody else be the guinea pig this time, I've got clients to look after.

@ ddye: If you read the forums, you can conclude that 4.1 is pretty solid. The new responsive menus alone is worth upgrading.

You don't have to give up v4, if you install v4.1. During the installation, when it asks you to remove version 4, click on cancel, AND install the new version (4.1) in a new folder. Then you will have both versions. On my computer i have all versions installed, since 3.1.

Then head on to templateer and get the latest plugin. JUST MAKE SURE THAT YOUR THEME HAS A HEADLINE AND SLOGAN - otherwise all hell will break loose!!!

You are missing out, things were dodgy as best in the past, but Artisteer seems that they got things right this time around. The only complains are from those who make static web sites with it, but for WP users, this thing is solid.

Take this from someone who is very critical towards Artisteer, when they are deceptive, non helpful, and when in the past produced crappy versions, BUT at the same time, gives them all the credit and praise in the word. Well this time around, they got my respect and praise. Is it perfect? No software is, but this is by far the best work they have done so far, so as the templateer btw, even though the themes are bloaded due to the shortcodes most probably - which probably come as a package with bootstrap. The way you can now create custom sidebars to be displayed on every device or selectively on desktops, tablets and phones, and in any given combination, is incredible. I think that comes from the bootstrap code as well...

I hope others will chime in as well on this.
