Finally getting around to really looking at Version 4 and some things just aren't clear to me. For example I love the idea of the 'Content Layout' and 'New Blocks', it provides a great deal of flexibility for designers and coders. But it seems to me that there's something missing.
Can the content areas or blocks be used with widgets and shortcodes?
Don't know if I'm being dense or if I'm asking V4 to do something that it isn't designed to do!

I probably don't know as much as you  but I think the broad answer is yes. You can certainly place widgets in the side columns and configure how they appear - e.g. with bock header, without. so they can use the AS style.
I'm not sure how to use the content areas when creating a page in WP however, e.g. if I have a two column layout that I want to use do I have to cut and paste the css styles (I sure can't remember them!) into the content editor to get the same layout?
