I ran into the same problem. So, I build the basic template within Artisteer and export it to a zip file for installation into Joomla. After that I export the zip file, and using Notepad++ (although any text editor would work), and I modify just two files to reflect my needs. If you know what you are doing, the total time needed to make the changes should be less than 25 mins. Here is a sample of the module positions I define:

I start by creating a new div across the very top of the page for things like the login / my info items. Numbers run left to right.

position-A1
position-A2
position-A3
position-A4

Left Side. (Don't use right side) Numbers run top to bottom.
position-L1
position-L2
position-L3
position-L4

Center Positions - Top to Bottom. Each position is a full row, unless it has an R or L.

position-C1
position-C2
...
position-C15
position-C16L
position-C16R
position-C17

Footer positions - I define three Footer rows, for copyright, and fotter menu

position-F1
position-F2
position-F3

Bottom Positions BELLOW the footer - for misc info
position-B1
position-B2
position-B3
position-B4

If this is what you are looking for, contact me and we can work something out. If you have a basic knowledge of html, then I can show you how to make the changes yourself is less than an hour. In which case, I would charge $25 for an hour of instruction. Obviously, you would not be limited to just these position names. Once you understand the layout, you could name your positions anything you wanted to. If you need someone to make the changes for you, we can discuss that as well.

We are seeking some one with the ability to develop a plugin for artisteer 4 for Joomla. This request was already requested to Artisteer but it was in the to hard department even though we offered to pay. We need artisteer to have the ability to create Joomla custom module positions. We will pay for this to be possible but it will remain our IP or joint venture. We need to be able to high light any section we want on the template and then create the module position and give it a name. If some one can do this please let me know how, when and how much.

This would be a great addon and something that artisteer should consider developing. It would really increase the usefullness of artisteer as a product. Today Im working with positions by trial and error throught messing around inside the index.php file inside the joomla adminpages. But its working for me so far.

I am a complete newbie, but I have been studying......

I just made another Artisteer template, and inserted a blank "block". I thought the block would be assigned a position when I uploaded it to Joomla.

No such luck.

I want a blank position to add custom html to whatever article I want to. I wanted to use a space in the right column to add a few highlights, instructions, or my own comments about the content of that specific page.

I tried using columns, and it works fine for the home page. But when I create new articles in Joomla, the columns are gone, and there is just one main content area.

When I did a search on the internet to find out how to keep the same front page formatting for all new articles, all that came up was how to change formatting for different articles. I don't understand why new articles won't maintain the same format as the front page.

I have been reading about how to add a position to a template in Joomla, but haven't tried it yet. I can see how to add a new position. I just don't know how to make the new position go to the blank block position, or even if it is possible.

All I know for sure is that I have spent a great deal of time trying to get my template set up, and looking for help. So far, I have been unable to achieve my design objective.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd surely appreciate it. Here is a link to my website. God only knows what it will look like tomorrow!

If you are making that article in Artisteer that is the reason that the fonts are different for the rest of the page. Two options:
1. Set the font, size and link attributes in the content controls at the top menu of Artisteer
2. Open your custom article in Joomla backend and select "save as new", which will give you a copy of that article, which you can change content without it going to default.
