Menu icons appearing behind menu |

Hi all,
I'm using the menu_icons module to place icons onto my vertical menu, but the icons are behind the menu. You can just see a pixel or two peeking out. I've tried changing the z-index for the v-menu to -99999 but it hasn't helped. Any ideas?
