Have you tested uploading an Artisteer 3.1 template in Joomla 2.5.0? (I'm sorry but I'm having difficulties parsing your text.)

I have just upgraded to Joomla 2.5 as well and can't install an Artisteer template either!

I was originally using 3.0 and thought the problem was with an older version so I have just purchased 3.1, but I'm still having the same problem...

When I upload a zipped template using extension manager the template successfully installs but isn't visible in template manager. The template's files are sitting in the template directory (I have also tried to ftp the template folder into the templates directory), however in extension manager: manage the template location is located in Administrator (other templates are located in Site). The component is also shaded, unlike other templates in the list

Problem solved :-)

For Joomla 2.5 you must export your Artisteer template with Positions set to: position-1, position-2, ...

Marco

There IS no Problem:
Arti 3.1 works with both Position-Sets.

I installed new J25 Site and create a template with Pos left/right and another one with pos1/pos2...

Both templates seems to be working correctly.

and JoomlaBernd: VEEERY good Posting! :-<

IMHO: The safest thing is that Artisteer developers release a new version to support this Joomla upgrade... :-P

Thank you!!! :-D

AFAIK is this a Feature of 3.1. When you export the template you can choose which positionset you want to use.

@@ndres: Yeah, I agree with you. But actually it´s very quiet round about artisteer. :(
No new Infos. No voice - nothing :(

I'm not affiliated with Artisteer in any way, other than being a user of the software.

I feel compelled to point out: Joomla 2.5 Stable was released yesterday. There are mixed answers here as to whether Artisteer 3.1 works or not.

For them to know why it works for some people and not others, you're going to have to give them a lot more information than "It doesn't work".

ie: Did you make a fresh Joomla 2.5 install, or is this not working on a site you migrated from 1.5? What version of PHP are you using? etc etc.

This is why when people want help on the Joomla forums, they are asked to use the Forum Post Assistant:

Be patient, just like the Joomla extensions, Artisteer will catch up. Anyone making a production website from a brand new piece of software (Joomla 2.5) is crazy anyway - professional sites should always use proven code. It's common for (good) web developers to wait until the first few revisions to come out before adopting it.

And, as rand486 (that name takes me back in computing - used to own a "speedy" 486 once!!), many of the extensions for Joomla, though being 1.6/1.7 compatible, will have issues with 2.5, so what's the rush?

1.7 is a good solid and tested platform and not all extension devs have even caught up with that! Artisteer works with 1.7, so enjoy. Wait for the bugs to get shaken out of 2.5. It's no bug fix upgrade - it's a pretty major release.

I'm not a big fan on jumping on a major release either, but looks like Joomla is trying to force the issue:

Hi,

First: 1.7 end of life is one month away and lot of things can happen before that, to artisteer and to Joomla 2.5. So there are no rush if you count any problems.

Second: i have tested update with lot of sites and if you template is made with 3.1 i think it is safe to update (backup of course and remember to backup too.. no kidding.. really MAKE A BACKUP!)

Third: there are few issues with 2.5 but you will find a solution. Examples:
1. after an update, you shoul fix you database errors from Joomla admin panel (new tab in extensions manager).
2. Make sure you have correct settings for html cleanup (there are new tab in configuration page) .happen me twice that every styles from articles went to bitspace after editing an article.

Fourth: it does not matter what is your positions name if you update (can be left, right etc..) but if you are making a new template, you should use the other method (position-1 etc..) this was on the tape when they publish Joomla 1.6 so this is an old news..

Fifth: there are few clitches with new features but those are really minor (example: new awesom search module)

Sixth: be patient and remember to backup!

BEWARE editing Articles after updating to 2.5 without first editing html Text Filtering. Go to Global Configuration, then to the new tab - Text Filters, and change 'Default Black List' to 'No Filtering' for all user groups until you've worked out what the other values mean and how they affect Articles.

I edited one article and all of the html was stripped out, including links and line breaks, as soon as I hit Save. I would suggest the Defaults have been set badly, so let's hope 2.5.1 is better.

Just mention that too in my previous post.. though you mention it better:)

This does not happen with every site but you should do this before Joomla provides fix.

Not a forced issue, Joomla 1.5 is also running up in a few months. Keep in mind, it just means they won't be making further security updates if any vulnerabilities are found. It does not mean Joomla is suddenly insecure.

People still run Joomla 1.0 sites without problem! In fact, I migrated the last of my 1.0 sites only 6 months ago.

Anyway, the point still stands: Joomla 2.5 is brand freakin' new. The only 2.5 site I have on the go right now is something that won't be launched for 6 months, because by then, the bugs will (or should) be worked out.

Putting anything on the Internet with unproven code is just asking to be hacked.

I'm a bit torn... I am building a site now that will go live in a week or so. It will have multiple users and I have already configured the ACL to limit access to certain categories and loaded all of the content. I am not usually one to jump on new versions but in this case it might be less stressful to update now rather than 6 months or a year from now when all of the users have been added to the site.

I guess what I am looking for is more input from those that have updated from 1.7 to 2.5

Cheers

@Ron

As has been mentioned, 2.5 is BRAND NEW. Yes, of course it's been tested, but I can guarantee not as extensively as Windows (which is, admittedly, a much more complex program) and look at the myriad of bugs in any new version of that! Don't EVER mention Vista in my earshot!!!! :-< What a piece of @#$%^!

If you are going live with a site in the near future, IMHO, you would be crazy to go with 2.5. As I said earlier, 1.7 is solid and being well updated. Plus a huge number of extensions have been made 1.6/1.7 compatible. Being 1.6/1.7 compatible does NOT immediately mean they will work in 2.5 - most will (according to Joomla news releases) but not all.

Secondly, Joomla has already said that the migration from 1.7 to 2.5 will be accomplished with a simple translator (alas, not 1.5 to 2.5!!) so, in the later future, an upgrade seems not an onerous thing.

Thirdly, there seems a mixed bag of reports as to how 2.5 and Arty 3.1 play together. Many say fine, a number are saying not.

Personally, I wouldn't risk it. I'm not rushing to convert all my 1.5 sites. They run perfectly and, while there may be some security issues in the future, it's unlikely they will be horrendous. I am more bothered by sloppy coding from extension developers than I am about Joomla security holes.

Well... I went ahead and updated my site. Prior to doing that though I installed a replica of the site onto my development server and then did the update to 2.5 on it first as a test. Keep in mind this was an update from 1.7.4 to 2.5, it went without a hitch on my test site so I went ahead and did it on the 'almost production site' as well.

When I say it went without a hitch I mean it. The whole update took about 20 seconds. I had caching turned off prior to the update and I only have one extension installed, the JCE editor. Piece of Cake. Hopefully there will be no trouble down the road.

On a side note it seems weird to me that the Joomla developers all of a sudden release a version 2.5. What happened to all the versions in between, usually the first number is only incremented when it is a major release... maybe this was. Even so what about 2.1 and so on. Perhaps there was a major flaw in the earlier planned releases and they jumped ahead to 2.5...

Cheers

I wish we could edit posts...

It seems in version 2.5 you can't upload a new version of the template if it has the same name. This is like it used to be with 1.5. With 1.6 + it was possible to keep uploading templates with the same name, they would overwrite the previous versions. Now with 2.5 it seems you have either uninstall the previous version or upload the latest version with a new name.

There are few moments in life that I get this much joy out of anything at all..

If your having trouble with Artisteer template and you are using version 3.1, then: as you hit export, that little window you are familiar with will pop up asking for the file name.. there is something new there... A choice, pick 1.5 or 1.6/1.7 and the default is 1.5...

This is super exciting to me for a couple of reasons.. My production machine is running Joomla 1.5 and my test machine is running 2.5.. the 1.5 setting works on the production and the 1.6/17 worked on the test machine 2.5... check that out see if that fixes the issue...

As I've said in my previous messages in other posts, I tried an 1.7 Artisteer template with Joomla 2.5 beta 2 -No problem with the installation and everything looks fine, but the intro image of articles isn'displayed: this is a new feature of Joomla article manager, called "Images and Links", where the admin can set an image and its position immediately after the article title.
The option works with default Joomla templates and with a free template I grabbed from the net.
The "read more" button works properly (it was a trouble I had with some previous 1.7 Artisteer templates) .
The default contact form is also troublesome: more or less there is the same error of "read more" button: when you click on "contact info" there is no redirection or opening of the full contact form (even if joomla option is set to "display" both in general and specific options.

Just complete a fresh install of J2.5 and uploaded a 3.1.0.46558 Artisteer template set with user3 menu position and installed perfectly.

So good start for Artisteer on a new major release of Joomla, but the problems came about with browser compatibility, regardless of template source. Assigning an article to a single menu item fails in Chrome and Safari, only worked with IE. Its to be expected that a major version of Joomla to have some quirks. I'm now going to wait a little bit for some bug fix updates to come out and then try the auto upgrade features.

I have only two web sites recently created. I have another 2 to do right now still in the planning stages. Of the two that are done, they were done with the latest 3.1.0.46558 for Windows under Joomla 1.71, updated perfectly along the tree to 1.73 and now on to 2.5. I use the position 1 and position 2 setting because I found the other names had problems even under Joomla 1.71 and the others didnt.

So, if you are doing things right, they all work. For proof, you can go to www.readournovels.com for a working example updated to the latest Joomla.
