Photoshop to Artisteer

I know this question has been asked before, but with Artisteer 3.0 now out, I'm hoping the answer is different.

My partner designs sites in Photoshop (wireframed) and I was telling her we should be using Artisteer for some of our WP sites because it might make our workflow quicker and smoother. But, she's read all the info on the site and keeps telling me that you can have your own templates in Artisteer - you're limited to the ones that Artisteer has ONLY.

Can you design something in Photoshop (wireframe) and use that as your template for the WP design?

Thanks in advance for any help

Can you design something in Photoshop and use is as a template in Artisteer?

Yes...

but it may require additional coding to create the specific layout you require. As an example, you can create the basic outline, header, menu, and main article section... but when it comes to dynamically pulling article content to create a magazine layout on the home page, this will require additional code skills after you build your base website in Artisteer.

The biggest change that helps is adding custom textures. In Artisteer let's say you want a custom menu which you have designed in photoshop. All you have to do is upload a custom texture for the menubar, and a custom texture for the buttons - and voila, you have a custom menu.

By using this technique you can slice your photoshop image up into nice little pieces and feed it into the Artisteer beast.

It's not fancy (by any stretch of the imagination) but this is exactly what i did for one of my 2hr web design clients at http://FarmingtonDentalLab.com - I created a custom menu with a gold bar outline. The gold bar outline isn't available in Artisteer, but I created a custom menu bar texture and the hover/active button texture.

I have found that Artisteer saves me a ton of time. I have to work within the Artisteer framework - but I'm okay with that.

Wow. She's not very bright is she?

You should get a new partner.

Everything I do is made in Photoshop first then cut up and integrated into Artisteer. She has no fr@cking idea what she is talking about. In fact she doesn't even sound worthy of the software.

Have her keep doing things the old way. Let the rest of us make the money. We have no time for narrow minded people like her.

In addition if your not using wp or joomla then you can get hundreds of plugins here for any platform you choose.

You should buy Artisteer and ditch your lame ass partner. lol You don't need her holding you back...

Artisteer doesn't contain any templates instead it create them on the fly, you should read following FAQ for more details: http://www.artisteer.com/?p=faq#faq13

This is just rude -- there is no call for this on the forum.

Artisteer is great at a lot of stuff, but there are other more unusual designs where trying to cram it into Artisteer is going to take more work than writing from scratch.

Until V3, Artisteer didn't even support a header wider than the sheet or percentage widths.

Has a question....

I made the website in Photoshop, How do I slice it and how do I get it imported into artisteer.

It only allow me to import Artisteer projects, and not other files.

I would relaly apreciate advice as this is the first one I am making.

I am not sure this is the only way to do it but this is what I do....I save out the background of your photoshop wireframe and then use it by importing it into Artisteer by going to the background tab and insert it there....so, that takes care of the background, the rest you pretty much have to do in Artisteer, if you have custom widget block headers that you made you can import those in for artisteer. You can put some images in as well but for the most part find a template that is close to what you want and then go about changing the colors, the transparencies and the designs until you get what you want.

There is no reason you can't use photoshop to design, slice and export your graphics to use in Artisteer.

There are a few places in Artisteer to bring in and use your own graphics. Some things take a little planning to be sure you are not using larger images where you could use a smaller image tiled and such but it works just fine. There are limits though to placing images and fancy rounded corners so again planning and knowledge of css is helpful.

is there anyway you can make a video on what to name these layers exactly? is it just like what the theme core files would be? I am a little confused and I am a sophomore design student so this is all new to me still
