Will Artisteer be compatible with DNN 6?
I just installed one of my Artisteer skins over the beta version of DNN 6 and got the following error:

An error has occurred. DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at ArtMenuSkinObject.ArtMenuSO.Page_PreRender(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

:-X DNN 6 Admin drops under skin, Drop down Sub Menu items also disappear. Darn. I was hoping to update my sites. They are all Artisteer Skins. I love DNN 6 and hope there is an Artisteer Update soon....

I tried to upgrade to DNN 6, and the upgrade simply does not work. Is there a way I can test it to see if it is the artisteer skins causing an issue? Is it even possible to upgrade a DDN5 to DNN6 if there are artisteer skins in place?

To resolve the admin drop, just go on the page.ascx:

Find on the top of the page:
<div class="art-controlpanel-container"><div id="ControlPanel" runat="server"></div></div>

Cut it

And paste it at the end of the page.

Does that resolve the sidebar menu too? both the top menu and sidebar menu don't seem to load after upgrading to DNN v6

This worked like a champ, thanks for the fix! Any explanation as to why this works?

sorry for the 2nd post...code was not right

The css in _default/default.css that solves this for me is shown in Bold..

/* Module actions */
.dnnActionMenuBorder{-moz-box-shadow: 0 0 5px #888;-webkit-box-shadow: 0 0 5px #888;box-shadow: 0 0 5px #888;z-index:-1;
background:transparent;position:absolute;margin:-8px 0 0 -8px;padding: 0 16px 16px 0;width:100%;height:100%;border:1px #ccc solid}
.DnnModule{z-index:1;position:relative;height: 100%;}
.dnnActionMenu{margin:0;padding:0;position:absolute;z-index:-1;10;color:#000;left:10px;top:10px;}

JCB,

I don't have the skin.css in my skin folder...I created Artisteer template a while ago...in like v2.something....now getting

An error has occurred. DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at ArtMenuSkinObject.ArtMenuSO.Page_PreRender(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

when I updated site with my skin to DNN6 is Dave's suggestion supposed to resolve this particular error msg? If not has anyone been able to resolve this?

So far it appears that the cleanest way to resolve the z-index issue with Artisteer 3.0 and DN6 is:

In Artisteer, goto Export Options, then CSS Options. Paste in the following lines:
.DnnModule {z-index:0;}
.art-nav {z-index: 1;}
.art-controlpanel-container {z-index:2;}

Save your skin and upload to DNN6. You will find the z-index works as intended. No need to edit Portal.css, skin.css, or anything else for that matter. Now your skin is ready to distribute to others without requiring additional efforts on the part of the skin user.

Quote Kevin:

JCB's issue seems to have something to do with the Portal Container in use for the page, and some CSS that (by comparison with the "Dark Knight" skin) is missing.

I fixed the "Manage" popup, that is, made it look like it does in a Dark Knight skin, by adding the following CSS to the Artisteer -> Export Options -> Custom CSS dialog. (I obtained this CSS from the Containers\DarkKnight\containers.css file.) I placed this CSS after the text required to fixe the Admin/Menu z-order issue.

ALSO: You may notice that there are extra "edit" and "settings" links on your page in Edit mode. Looking at the "Article.ascx" container file in an Artisteer theme, you'll find references to the extra controls "dnnADDCONTENT" and "dnnEDITCONTENT." I removed them from the ascx file manually without any apparent harm.

Re: Windows Beta
I concur with Bob,
:-) I just converted my first Skin

I chose DNN 6 as my skin type
It added the DDR Menus but put the login Register buttons on even though I had those turned off. Other than that the skin works great.

Yay!

I have used Artisteer 3.0 and installed skins on four upgraded DNN 6.0 sites with no problems at all. The only hitch was the Z index issue where the DNN menus get hidden behind the modules. The resolution to this was neatly pointed out previously by Tim R (http://www.artisteer.com/Default.aspx?post_id=169647&p=forum_post):

In Artisteer, goto Export Options, then CSS Options. Paste in the following lines:
.DnnModule {z-index:0;}
.art-nav {z-index: 1;}
.art-controlpanel-container {z-index:2;}

Check out the new skins:

Artisteer is just fantastic - I love using it! :-) :-) :-)

For those who are still facing the object reference error on the Pre_Render event, here is the solution:

Open your skin file(s) and search for "<dnn:ARTMENU".

Change the following attributes of the tag to false:
ShowLoginTab="False"
ShowUserTab="False"

That should fix the error. For a bit of technical detail, the problem lies with the changes to the serverid of controls in DNN6 which is affecting the FindControl method of the ArtMenu implementation. What ArtMenu should have done is check if the control exists before performing any operations or throw a friendly error. If you absolutely need the Login tab to display, you will need to change the source code of artmenu.

No love lost, ArtMenu is still the application for skinning DNN :)

I don't have "CSS options" in my artisteer. Most probably because I have the mac version. Any other option?

This does not work for me. I can not get any Artisteer skin to put the DNN 6.0 Control panel on top. It is always hidden.

I'm using the latest Beta (3.1.0.42580), Selecting DNN 6 for the version and adding the 3 lines you suggest to the CSS Options.

Any other suggestions?

Quote JCB:

Just made a test with the same version.

You don't need anymore the 3 lines.

Just in the options, be sure to select DotnetNuke 6.

Also, be sure to leave in CSS options the CSS prefix art-. Otherwise, it's not working for the menu.

For me, it's perfect

Support logged into my system and found the problem. You are correct that we do not need the 3 lines anymore with the latest beta.But They had me add the following line to CSS Options.

.dnn6 .art-controlpanel-container{position: fixed;}

This fixed the problem. They said it will be in the next release.

Artisteer, Thanks for the quick response to my support ticket!

So what exactly is the fix for this? I have 2 websites that were created with older versions of Artisteer and with the upgrade to DNN 6 both of their menus are messed up, but everything else is ok.

I cannot load these particular skins into my Artisteer 3 because it just brings up the default skin. So I am not able to edit the export options CSS. What can I do to fix this, is there any code I can add into the CSS myself to fix it.

I have another site that was created with Artisteer 3 and it is working fine with the update. i just need to figure out what I can do to fix this menu issue I am having with the other 2.

The fix above in Doug Bullmer's note:

They had me add the following line to CSS Options.

.dnn6 .art-controlpanel-container{position: fixed;} Fixed the administrative menu problem (thanks). But I still do not get a "logout" link or the familier user link.

In DNN 5, you had to untick "Use DNN Menu", and tick "Login Tab", but in DNN 6 this did not work. Anybody got the fix yet?

Artisteer 3.1 for Windows (3.1.0.42580) supports DNN 6.0. Might want to give it a shot. Just go to the News page on www.Artisteer.com

Can we please have a posibility to show the language flags (or text) somewhere in the menu or header? I'm using the localization of DNN6 and I can't find how to get the flags visible. I need to support at least 2 languages and I'm really out of ideas.

Thanks!

Next to the language flag/text thing. Perhaps you can also include everything needed for jquery in the skins or at least on option to do so. Thx!

For language, you can paste that on your page.aspx.

<dnn:LANGUAGE runat="server" id="dnnLANGUAGE" showMenu="False" showLinks="True" />

You can look sample in the darkknight skin.

Is there a way to support the DNN 6.0 Mega Menu (That is in the Default Knight skin) with Artisteer?

Thanks,

I recently found Artisteer and am blown away - and then I was blown away to find out it doesn't support DNN 6.x.

I will be buying multiple licenses as soon as it supports 6.x. I also know at least 6 others that will buy multiple licenses as well.

Artisteer 3.1 works fine with DNN 6.x BUT if you have old skins convert to DNN6 with other filename !!!! Then it works !!! :-)
