Artisteer 3.0 and Joomla 1.6 - templates not showing up?!?

I created a new Joomla template using Artisteer 3.0 and uploaded it to the /templates folder of my Joomla 1.6 site (clean install - nothing else running yet). In Joomla Admin I go to Extensions > Template Manager - and it does now show the template that I uploaded in the list of available templates to choose from.

I have worked with Joomla since it was Mambo - so I am familiar with the directory structure ...etc.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

I would try installing it through the joomla back end. Install just like other modules or components.

IF you still have problems let me know.

Thanks jrgweb - I did not mention in my original post above that I had already tried installing from a .zip. J-1.6 generated a nasty error (see below), which I found is a known bug (see here: http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p=2395179). So, until the bug is fixed, I am not able to upload and install the zip file of the template.

Any known reason why placing the template directly onto the server (like we used to do with J-1.5) via FTP does not work?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The Error
* JFile: :write(/home/private/public_html/tmp/install_4d49d549d417e/Artisteer3/images/sheet_s.png): fopen(/home/private/public_html/tmp/install_4d49d549d417e/Artisteer3/images/sheet_s.png) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied

Yep, I've seen some of the problems that people are having with joomla 1.6
Guess I've been lucky becasue I have not been able to duplicate the problems. At least not yet. I've installed joomla 1.6(latest version) on my server and on a local server and both have installed nicely.

Because Joomla 1.6 is new I'm not using it on production sites just testing at this stage.

On joomla 1.6 install I have installed artisteer 2.6 RC template and also artisteer 3.0 templates. They can been viewed here. http://j16.jrgweb.net

This is were I test joomla 1.6 and also artisteer templates

Ditto - I am testing 1.6 now to see if I can work through any bugs and decide if I want new sites to use it or 1.5. if I had to decide "today" ... it would have to be 1.5.

Thanks for your input - hopefully someone else has seen my problem and can help me through it.

I am having the same problem, I tried installing through joomla 1.6 admin and the template isn't showing in the template manager, I have also tried uploading the files straight to the templates directory (in a sub folder obviously)... no luck! I've been using artisteer for awhile now with no problems, upgraded yesterday so i can use joomla 1.6 but yeah... no luck!

Your help is greatly appreciated!

If use folder instead of ZIP, then follow this:
- copy template folder to templates folder
- go to Joomla administration page
- open Extensions menu
- go to Extension Manager
- click on Discover
- you template will install.

I think ZIP method is better and simple for Joomla 1.6 version.

:-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Perfect, thanks so much for your quick response!

I had already uploaded as a ZIP to the templates directory, all I had to do was Discover from within the extension manager as Mykee mentioned!

Thanks again!

If you template have in ZIP, then install like Plugin or Modules under Extension Manager, and that's all! No any copy or discover, just install. :-)
This trick working under Joomla 1.5 too. :-)

I was having the same problem when I tried installing my zip file directly through Godaddy's file manager. When I installed it through the back end of my site using the extension manager everything worked fine.

I am pretty new to Artisteer and have been using Joomla for around 2 years now. I just downloaded what I thought was the latest update 2.6 RC3. After I download the update does that automatically update my existing templates when I open them or do I have take another step?

You're not creating articles in MS Word & then pasting them into a Joomla editor are you?
Word puts a load of garbage into the file which can severely banjax your site. If the answer is yes, cut/paste the article via a text editor (notepad, bbedit etc) to remove the rubbish

Hi there. I'm a new user (with no html/css knowledge) who just bought this to ease the formatting of my company websites. I have 2 websites: 1 running Joomla 1.6.1, the other 1.5.23.
I've created, saved and exported zip files for both sites, and apparently imported them successfully (I get the happy message in Joomla admin page) but when I apply the templates to my existing pages they appear with no formatting at all.

Am I doing something really simple wrong?

Did you enable search engine friendly urls, if yes you also need to:

1-Rename your htaccess.txt to .htaccess before enabling SEF URLs.

2- You must also turn on "Use Apache mod_rewrite".

-----------------------------
For using Artisteer 2.6 or above created templates you need PHP 5 on your web host.

You can check it from Help-> System Info from your Joomla admin.

Hi

Atanus, Pieter Empius I'm having the same problem. I've tried everything I know. The template looks great in Artisteer, but when I export to my site, nothing except the header. I get the concept that Joomla is a CMS, and there is really not a "page" per se. However I tried applying the template with content and without content--bare bones even. And nothing. I paid 129 for this software and I expect what it has promised. If not, I def want my money back.

Hello,

I couldn't install the Templates made with Artisteer 3.0 to my Joomla 1.6 using the Extension Manager.

So I installed them manually using the FTP and the "Discover" function.

The Templates show up in the list successfully, but when I click to edit them I get an error:

500 - An error has occurred. Error Loading Form File.

You need to have Artisteer 3.0 version in order to start exporting Joomla 1.6 compatible templates, you can download it from following page: http://www.artisteer.com/?p=downloads

Hi, friends! I installed Artisteer 3.0 and uploaded my template to Joomla! site. No changes, Garry! The problem may be is not in Artisteer. May be Joomla! don't know about the menus and extensions in my new template. I start read carefuly Joomla!s manual. When I find something important, I will write right now here. Like you all ...

Here is the solution:

Go to Module Manager > New . Menu . call it top Menu > place it position 3.
Go to Menu Manager > Add New Menu > call it top Menu
Return to Module Manager > open Top Menu > Basic Options > Select Menu > choose top Menu
return to Menu Manager and add a link or menu will not show.
Thats it!
