The menu settings in Drupal 7 are quite different.
When I added the menu block to the Extra1 section (between header and body) the background colour of the menu appeared. But the menu was still in the "side bar style", so plain text and vertical. I'd expect the horizontal menu blocks with vertical submenu's as in my design.
How can I fix this ?

Same Problem here, menu is in sidebar-style / vertical
