Template Broken in IE

A client called me this week reporting that their company website looked weird. The website is www.citycoredevelopments.ca

The website still looks/works great in FireFox and Chrome, but is completely broken in Internet Explorer.

Between the time it was working and not working, no one made any changes to the site. I have attempted to roll back to previous versions of the template and also tried running it on a different server, but nothing seems to correct this.

I've even tried disabling plug-ins, modules, and components to see if those were the culprit.

My other Joomla client websites appear A-OK in Internet Explorer, all of which use templates made with Artisteer.

Anyone have any ideas? Help would be greatly appreciated!

I just did a test on one of my test sites, and the Google analytics code is definitely the culprit.

HI Kyle

Like your design.
Could you tell ma how you did the bit on the following page below the central image? (Where you click on "1. Choose location" and the text appears)

http://www.citycoredevelopments.ca/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=68&Itemid=42

I've done this a few times on html sites and was just wondering if this id a Joomla specific extension/solution or if I'm going to have to hand-write it when I next need it

It is not the Google analytics code. I have exact the same problem and I do not have any Google analytics code on the template. It is a bug in Artisteer, again.

OK, it's not the Google analytics code per se, but the problem is that there is javascript code before the doctype declaration - this breaks the template in IE. I don't know about your site, MAD King, but I can pretty much guarantee that is the problem with Kyle's site.

I don't have any special javascript on it, I think it has something to do with the css .art-nav .r and .art-nav .l

Dreamweaver CS4 is showing a note, that this code can be cause problems with IE because it is not compatible.

Maybe there's too many css sheets being loaded (IE can only hold 30). I had a problem with a site (using Drupal), but found a module to integrate all the css sheets into one sheet and the problem fixed itself.

@quarterstaff Thank you for the input. I will try removing this code. It was put in by the SEO specialist my client hired, but he didn't tell me! I've since spoken to my client about becoming fully accountable for their website, such that all other persons would need to contact me before making any changes.

@idern Thank you for the compliment! For the About, Testimonials, and Process pages, I am using the 2J Tabs Extension: http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/style-a-design/tabs-a-slides/5379
Hope this helps!

Looks like that did the trick. Thanks quarterstaff! The SEO guy didn't put it into the template in Joomla, he actually put it in the index.php file. That's probably why I didn't notice there was a problem!

@ Mark C I've only got however many CSS files Artisteer pumps out, so I don't think that will be the problem. Thanks for the tip, though; valuable information!

I am currently working on a site and am having a problem with the menu tabs being cut off in IE. My client uses a PC, Windows XP, Windows 7, and Internet Explorer. On my end, I'm working on an iMac in Firefox and everything looks fine.

I had edited the page.php source code to get rid of the page titles on all of the pages so that the Home page title in the navigation menu would say Home instead of the title of the Home page. By editing this page, I evidently broke the layout for the site in IE.

My ultimate goal is to have a navigation menu that says Home so that someone can click back to the home page. My client requested more page links than will fit comfortably across the navigation menu causing the links to drop down to a second row. She wants these links to be visible to her clients and not hidden underneath a drop-down menu. I have designed the menu to have drop down navigation in case she wanted to add pages in the future.

Is there an easy fix to this problem, or should I go back in and add the page title code back in to fix it? This would mean that I would still have the problem of "Home" not showing up in the navigation menu.

Please help!

Thanks.
Toni

You should be able to name your home page "Home" and leave the files alone.

Just a suggestion here
1. Widen the page to say 1000px
2. Decrease the distance between the menu items in the menu bar.

Not sure you could fit all the items on the single bar then even. The only other option is to combine or shorten some of the links.

No. You have the css file(s) that artisteer pumps out, but also the css files of each individual module (if it has one (or more)). You potentially have lots and lots of css files running.
