Is there a way to define menus apart from the menu bar?

For example I would like to use NO horizontal menu bar and define a vertical menu in a column with buttons and colours.

I can easily make my menu and locate it in Joomla, but Artisteer does no seem to give me any way to modify the look of it.

Am I missing something?

You're not missing anything. Menus added to the side bars are just text link menus. You could create a Custom HTML module and put in graphic buttons, this may work for you. There may be an extension to do this, but I haven't heard of any myself.

I see this issue everywhere... Only it is described differently in each question.

The problem we're trying to describe I think (as it is for me at least) are related to the menu item text links within for example 'Blocks' like the "Main Menu" etc (in Joomla) .

Menus appear differently based upon the position assigned.. For example:

I can create a menu with links, when this menu is assigned a position as 'Left' the links are displayed as text links.. However, when the same menu is assigned to the 'User3 position' the links are now displayed as BUTTONS!!

So what makes 'User3 position' different from any other position?

The CSS for the template, module, component, and/or plugin.

The CSS for the template, module, component, and/or plugin. User 3 position is designed to display a menu bar and menu buttons. The side bar modules are design to display a block with text links.

Thanks for the feedback :)

While I scratch my head over this one, perhaps I can ask if this "design" is determined CSS or a Joomla ? please

I was really impressed trying artisteer...

Then I tried to have a side menu with colours and button, not just text, and i found i can't... Such a simple thing is not possible!

but do the creators really think i'm going to spend 149 dollars if i can't even have a side menu with button and colours?

Don't you think that it's a great limits, when a lot of free templates do have side menus with buttons and colours?

"BUTTONS" as in plural? How do you get more than one button when you assign to user3? I can get only one button.

Artisteer is going to introduce this feature in upcoming 2.4 version. Meanwhile you can use superfish joomla exension for vertical menus.
