Does anyone have their exported donetnuke skin work at all? I exported the skin and it can be installed on donetnuke, but the problem is there is only one content pane. Which means that I have to display all information on one pane only.

Even though I specific in artisteer that the template should have 2 columns, but all donetnuke able to pick up is one content pane and the left and right content pane are missing.

:-)Yes, I work with skins on several sites now. Example: www.kerkeninmoordrecht.nl. There are a few things you have to know to optimize your skins. I f you want, I can send you a whitepaper

There is nothing wrong with the skin export - we have exported and implemented several.

Are you sure you are not using an admin skin?

The default DNN skin comes with standard panes Content, Right, Left, Top, Bottom and a few others. When DNN uploads your new skin it looks for panes with the default names to place your modules. Artisteer produces skins with different default pane names (except Artisteer skins do produce a ContentPane as well) . Therefore, when DNN cannot find Panes named Left and Right, it places all modules in the one pane whose name it does recognize - the ContentPane.

If you want to get back to the 3 column format simply move your modules to SideBare 1 and SideBar2. Use the "Move" command that is available on the menu for each module (click thedown arrow in admin view) a list of Panes will appear, select the want you want. That's all there is to it.:-)

Is there a possibility to rename SideBar1, SideBar 2, etc, to standard DNN names? Will it work? Because I don't want to break site content to adapt to the new skin all the time.

Yes,
go to Portals/YourPortalID/Skins/YourSkinName/ and open skin.ascx file. Change ID name for SideBar1, SideBar 2...

Interesting that I have to go outside Artisteer in order to accomplish that, I mean I have no option to set the content panes properly within the Artisteer user interface. Anyways from where Artisteer gets all those values definitions User1, Banner4, Bottom3, SideBar2 etc. It does not seem to be referenced anywhere before publish time.

I agree. Why does Artisteer create so many redundant panels?

Artisteer is a template maker, not a site builder, you'll still have to do some of the hard work yourselves folks :-)

Artisteer Rease 2.3 works very well with DNN!

The site http://zandberg.emjee.nl (example) is 100% Artisteer. No trics or code changes at all afterwards. Artisteer provides a lot of Panes. It is true, no Left and Right pane, but for new build websites this is no problem. On older sites, you can ask your host to convert LeftPane to Sidebar1 by a SQL query to make your site Artisteer proof.

The Skin in Artisteer 2.3 behaves very well!!! No whitepaper needed anymore to build a professional skin in DNN.

Compliments to the people of Artisteer!

Hey All,
You don't need to depend on a white paper to optimize these skins - it is actually very easy!
1. Eliminate the redundant or unwanted panes - I prefer less panes as it keeps the html cleaner.
2. If you are migrating a current site - change the id tag for the panes to match your current skin.
3. And this one is just a personal preference - add the DNN user and login register at the top of the skin and the appropriate tokens and change the artmenu showlogin and showuser to false.
Voila!!
