Kunena expands to Full Width of Template

So I tried one of my Artisteer creations on an existing site. My Kunena forum immediately expanded to the full width of my template. No padding or anything.

I assume components other than those that come pre-packaged with Joomla do this as well.

Is this something that needs fixing in 2.2?

I'll have to check that one now Roger. You have modules like the main menu published on all pages including the forum I assume?

Here's a screen capture. http://www.mentalhealthpractitioners.com/test.jpg

Note the borders around the breadcrumb area. The component area should be considered a sheet and have the same consistent design.

OK, I installed Kunena 1.0.9, put Joomla into legacy mode and set a link to it. I made sure that there were positions that would be in place at the same time, in this case "left." The board did not collapse the position and take over the entire page. Are you sure left or other positions are set to show on all pages including the forum?

Also I just noted you mentioned the consistent design. I will assume you mean how Kunena looks here. The forum is not a "sheet" or "article" as such it does not inherit any of the site templates CSS. You have to install a custom theme into Kunena itself to make it match the appearance of your site.

Well, look at your own screen shot... See how the modules on the left have rounded borders? The whole pages probably has rounded borders, too.

So, anything in the component should have rounded borders for a consistent look and feel...that's what I mean. So, the forum needs to be surrounded by an area with rounded borders.

The component space needs a design which is consistent with the rest of the template. That's why I said that the component space should be considered a sheet.

I don't mean that the template should take on the look of Kunena. I'm aware that it has it's own style sheets, as most components do.

By the way, I design sites where many pages have components that fill the full width of the template. No left or right modules active.

If the component space was styled as a sheet, then Kunena would be butt up against the sides of my template at http://www.mentalhealthpractitioners.com/test.jpg

Bonjour,

@Roger - just wondering .. how are you calling the forum? Are you using the Joomla wrapper menu item type? On a few site that I have done using phpBB3 in the same manner, the 'content' area did not retain any stying, other than the margin/padding/b-g colour, etc.

Cheers!

@Lyle

Kunena is a 1.5 legacy Joomla component...it's not a separate program like PHPBB that has to be bridged, with registrations tables to keep in sync, and so on. It's a Joomla component. You create a menu item and link to Kunena the same way you would to any other Joomla component.

www.Kunena.com. The project was taken over from Fireboard, which in turn was taken over from Joomlaboard. They're working on getting it Joomla 1.5 native at the moment.

The problem --- And this appears to be another growing pain that has to be worked out --- is that the component space is not considered a sheet, and doesn't take on a look consistent with the rest of the template. That should be relatively easy to fix, though...I would assume it will be fixed in the next release.

@Roger - Totally agree that the div used as the component wrapper (and I'm not referring to the Joomla Wrapper component here) should be styled by the template so that the div has complimentary border effects to the sidebar modules.

BTW - Kunena 1.5 native is now available - saw the developer at JoomlaDay and kicked the tires - all is looking good.

Kunena 1.5 is still in Alpha though right? Or did you get different info on that Duke?
And yes, it seems styling it will be a bit of a chore since it just drops it's body in a division.

Hey Roger

If you want Kunena to worked based on your template settings you only need to set the settings section in that part who says if you want to use joomla appearance to yes!. Kunena never use your template as a reference, that's why a lot of people like one of the best (MOC Design) are developing themes for kunena.

I think we're talking about different things. I'm talking about Kunena as an example of how the component space should be skinned by Artisteer.

You're talking about allowing the current Joomla CSS to cascade down and style Kunena.

If you can post an image where the modules in an Artisteer template have rounded corners and so does Kunena, then I'm wrong.
