I set up a WP Artisteer theme with 3 columns at www.digitalcamerazoom.net and the 1st column is a article the 2nd contains search box and the 3rd contains categories and links. when I go into my WP admin under widgets it shows 3 sidebars and there is nothing listed in all 3 sidebars.... I tried to add a text box for adsense ads and when I put it in any of the sidebars it delets what is already there. How would you recommend to add other sidebar widgets such as text or others without deleting what is already present in columns? In template setup under layout one has the choice of columns and the option for including search, categories, blogroll and archive position (or whether to exclude them). I am unable to add to those things like text, calender etc.

I would be thankful for any input on this matter.

Thanks very much,

Rick

I have a similar problem, when I add a widget to a column everything else disappears. I thought if I redid the template and removed everything from the sidebars, but kept the formatting, I could add the desired items in Wordpress. I can't figure out how to delete the blocks.

I'm thinking that since it scrams all the existing items in the sidebar, I could just add the widgets, and move on, but was worried that the original items I had in the template might somehow bite me in the future.

Got any suggestions?

Mal

Sidebars are dynamic.

Wordpress (and the Artisteer theme) starts off with 'default' items in the sidebar. Once you add a widget, Wordpress assumes you are going to add all the items into the sidebar, so it removes the 'default' items.

You can add the search, pages, categories, etc etc etc widgets just like you add a text widget.

Marc;

Thanks for the help! When I start adding widgets to the sidebars (BTW There are 3 sidebars in WP admin area and I set up theme with a main area and 2 other columns) I cannot get the ones I choose to show up? Is there any way you could check out the site for me?

Thanks,

Rick

There appears to be a bug in the code... where it lists one more sidebar than you actually have.

Put a text widget in each of the sidebars and see if it shows up. If not, I would email support@artisteer.com with the info.

I'm using the trail program, and getting ready to purchase. I had no problem at all with designing a Wordpress theme, uploading it and setting it on a trial site. It's extremely easy to use. However, now that I'm trying to use widgets, it's not working. I've tried adding various different widgets to all 3 of the sidebars, and nothing changes from the original theme on the live site.

Is there an issue with widgets working?

Chris,
when you create Artisteer theme with 3 columns it creates two sidebar files (sidebar1, sidebar2). So if you add widgets to sidebar3 under WP administration section they're not visible on your site because sidebar3 does not exists in produced Artisteer theme.

I think I figured out the problem. My test site was an old domain I have, and it wasn't updated to the very last version of WP. Once I updated it, the widgets work perfectly.

OK, I'm sold. :) I'll be purchasing this weekend.

Thanks for the help.
