You will want to refer to the Wordpress documentation on using themes, where they are located and how you enable them.

You need an FTP program and you would upload the theme into the /wp-content/themes directory.

Be sure to create a folder there and out the files in that folder

I found out the FTP thru my control panel at Host Gator and I just uploaded CoreFTP program but I have no idea what I'm supposed to do.

Dawn,

What you are trying to do is something that is a basic Wordpress function. Themes are something that Wordpress uses and you need to review the documents on how Wordpress uses themes and how/where they are located.

Using FTP software is somethign else you will need to learn to use, as this is the program that allows you to transfer files from your computer to your hosting service... and that is how you upload plugins and other code to Wordpress to get it to do other things.

The FTP software should have instructions, you can get info as to what credentials you need for it from HostGator

This is all stuff you need to learn before you start trying to do anything with Artisteer.

Good luck.

Two excellent options are Filezilla and FireFTP.

Filezilla is an excellent open-source standalone FTP program that is about as feature-rich as you would want.

FireFTP is a slick FireFox add-on that provides similar functionality.

And a s a tip, if you are doing lots of remote development, then set your default directory for the site to point to the Theme directory on your WordPress site, and it makes dropping files a snap.

Ideally, it would be great if Artisteer included a simple integrated FTP app, but until that happens, you must provide one yourself.

@mjuaji - No they each have their own dashboard.

You login in via www.yoursite/wp-admin/

@All - You can upload your WP theme from within your admin dashboard ( with zip file - hence the ability to export from Artisteer as zip ), making it very easy to install a new theme & not requiring any FTP programs...

@ mjuaji,

You should install Wordpress on your new host, most of hosts provide one click install, then upload your Artisteer created wordpress theme on your neew wordpress installation and activate it going appearance-> themes on your Wordpress admin.

Hi All

On the website I look after, I use both WordPress and Joomla. I like Joomla as a Content Management System (CMS) but prefer WordPress as a blog. I originally used Artisteer to create a template I liked for Joomla and, when I also added WordPress to the same site, I simply exported the same Artisteer creation as a WordPress theme. This ensures that the Joomla and WordPress areas of the website look identical but I have the added advantage of the 'best of both worlds' in terms of functionality.

btw Both Joomla (templates) and WordPress (themes) zipped files created in Artisteer are very easy to upload and install from each of the respective dashboards/control panels without the use of an FTP program.

I must say that Artisteer is one of the best web development applications I have seen for some time. Enjoy it :-)

If your in wordpress, then go to your dashboard and add new theme and upload it from your desktop. This was the easy.

:-)

That is definitly the easiest way. If your hosting has cpanel you can also use the file manager to upload it too.

Hi. For some reason the upload template option doesnt show up in WordPress/Dashboard/ManageTheams. Is there a special plan I have to buy for this feature?

Hi Mark,

Describe the menu items in your dashboard ?
ie are the 4 top main menu items, Posts, Media, Links & Pages ?

And no there is no special plan, wp is opensource.
( But of course Artisteer is a commercial product, but I guess you know that ! )

cheers Dave

@Scott - BTW: If you are referring to 3.0 beta 1 it is still there - there is now a new tab page called 'Install Themes' where you do the upload!

Holy crap, are people this f'n lazy???? Here's a solution: Get out of this industry! I am sick of people who DO NOT do their own homework and come to forums and ask questions my 12 year old son can answer regarding Joomla and Wordpress.

WTF are you saying or asking?????? Learn the english language enough to ask an intelligent question...

The rest of you know what I mean.....these lazy, unaccountable-for-their-actions people drain the life out of us. If you are new, I welcome questions that are pertinent, but if you can't read a damn codex article that can be searched on Google, get lost!!!

@ Daniel

It should be under Appearance-> Themes on your Wordpress admin.

I do not have the "Install Theme" button either. I've looked all over in the admin section. You can upgrade to "custom design" for a fee. Perhaps they have taken away the ability to upload your own theme so that you can pay them to customize???

I'm with the other posts having trouble. I'm not new to web design & FTP'ing, but can't figure this one out. I recently began a WordPress blog, so it's new. Under Appearance and Themes, I only have the option to select from existing themes - no way to upload anything. The YouTube video cited above is 2 years old.

Simply lick upload on top right, from there and you'll be able to browse/upload your theme.

I always get irritated when the experts don’t answer the question. Richard's post is great but beyond what was originally asked. The original question one that troubles the newbies.

The crisp answer to Dawn's original question is "You can't"

Its the same hope that everyone has that Artisteer will do the design work for you and then you carry it across to WordPress to do the publication work and get it out to the web.

You can’t interchange content. Artisteer will build you a theme and you can export that to WordPress and then build you site in WordPress. Artisteer still has a long way to go to catch u pwith WordPress plug-ins, tool and add-ons.

OR you can build you site in Artisteer and publish it in an Artisteer format.

But Artisteer is dream come true to those who are html, php and designed challenged.

Steve's answer was grand... and true. Artisteer would be SO sweet if it had a built-in FTP client!

Dawn... did you ever get this figured out? If not, you can feel free to email me and I will be happy to help! venus [at] covebabies [dot] com
