all professional joomla templates have collapsible columns , so if there's nothing published to the position left or right the content uses the hole width of the template ideal for forums and galleries this would be a nice feature for artisteer ...
also most pro templates have more module positions like banner, newsflash and user1-user6 ?
this options would make artisteer a 'must have' for joomla designers

With some PHP know how, this is possible.
You need to write an "if /else" statement that says that if you have no modules, then hide the column and adjust the CSS at the same time.

The other thing you could do is study the code of a Joomla premium template such as from Rocket Theme but basically they use the above method.
