Beta-2 issue

Hi,

I'm very happy with beta-2 wich I've downloaded today! Great improvements.

However, I've noticed an issue: when editing or add a new article from the frontend the editor comes up (in my case the CFK-editor), and in a template design with 3 colums (left and right smaller and in the middle a little wider column) the editor will not be visible completely, it fills only the column in the middle (where the article comes) and the rest of the editor, wider than the column, is not visible. So the complete text and menu's are invisible, also the button to save or cancel the changes.....

Regards,

Frank

Hello Frank,

I don't use FCK editor plugin, but I experienced the same issue with the default TinyMCE editor. To fix it I switched off some options to make the editor narrower, for example:
Extensions > Plugin Manager > Editor - TinyMCE 2.0 > Edit > Advanced Parameters > Layer: Hide.

You may try doing something similar in your JoomlaFCK editor settings, for example select 'Blog' or 'Default' Toolbar Mode rather than the Advanced one.

It may help.

Caroline.

Hi Caroline,

Thanks for the suggestion! I've changed the width of the editor from 780 to 400 and that made the save and cancel button vissible. Do you know if this is something in Joomla (so that always when any template with a narrow column is edited the editor not fully visible is) or is this only an issue when the template is made with Artisteer?

Since I'm pretty new with Joomla and Artisteer I've welcomed your answer highly!

Thanks again from the Netherlands,

Frank

Hi Frank,

Great to hear you managed to solve the problem!

Actually this looks like a general issue which occurs when a rich editor is displayed in a narrow column template. I found many people experiencing the same problem with different WYSIWYG editors in Joomla and other CMS templates created without Artisteer. So the problem is definitely not specific to Artisteer templates and is not directly related to Artisteer.

However there may be some css solution that allows to control the way a rich editor is displayed (width, wrapping). In that case Artisteer team may be able to add such css to the generated template to make their template event better. So I believe it is worth contacting Artisteer support about this issue anyway.

Sincerely,
Caroline.

Frank,

BTW, just wondering what Joomla FCK plugin you use and what exact browser displays the editor incorrectly.

I've just had some free time to play around with this, so I installed the official JoomlaFCK editor plugin from:
http://www.joomlafckeditor.com/

and activated it in Joomla administration. Surprisingly enough, I don't see any problems on my end, the editor is displayed just fine in all browsers I have (IE6, IE7, FF2, FF3, Chrome).

Regards,
Caroline.

Dear Caroline,

Thanks again for your kind attention. Your test with the joomlaFCK editor was very hopefull and you've set me more on track with this one.

I also have the joomlaFCK editor you're mentioning, but I've tried it also with the default editor in Joomla.

The problems I've noticed were with FF3, thanks to you I've tried the same with IE7 and YES, this was allright (still a part of the editor wouldt not fit a narrow column, but the things that really matters (save/cancel button e.o.) were visible with the IE!!!! Great job Caroline!

However, after the experiences you, I and others had and all the things I've tried to make it work this morning I do think that it is a good commercial and marketing wise decision if the development team is eager, willing and able to offer extra css to the template to make sure that these things cannot happen!

Beside that I'm very curious why you had no problems during your last trial with FF, I've really set almost everything joomlaFCK options offer, but a part of the editor disappears when the width setting is more than the column width of the template and using FF.

By the way, are you somehow connected with Artisteer or do you just love to offer your experience and knowledge to this forum?

Anyhow, great and thanks!

Frank

Hello Frank,

I'm not connected with Artisteer but I really love the software and I actually like playing around with different things and share my experience, feeling very happy when it helps someone :-)

I've just re-checked joomlaFCK with the updated Beta template and for me it stills works fine in Firefox. I believe you have this problem in frontend, right? Can you maybe provide a link to the dev version of your website for me to take a look.

BTW, I noticed that the similar issue with TinyMCE that I mentioned above is fixed in the latest Beta version. As I see they added some style

.mceToolbarTop {
white-space: normal;
}

to style.css file which made the editor display much better.

So I believe it is worth contacting Artisteer team about the issue you experience. Let them test your site and analyze the problem and maybe you will get some fix for your favorite FCKeditor included in the next Beta update :-)

Caroline.

Sweet Caroline (I like Neil Diamond... :-P)

Thanks for your care and sorry it took some days to reply to your last message, but I was busy with other things. In de meantime the problem seem to be fixed; with the most recent beta of Artisteer and your suggested settings and loving care & attention in de FCK-modulesettings the problem looks like solved.

I hav'nt looked yet, but I'm looking forward, I think just like you, to the final release of Artisteer, I do like it very much and think it's a great product with a lot of potential.

Maybe we'll speak again!

Frank
