There seems to be a problem with the output of the style.css file.
It is not showing up in Wordpress 2.7 theme manager.
Substituting [for instance] the "classic" style.css allows it to show but then I have to overwrite with Artisteer generated.
Cause and possible cure from Artisteer before I buy the software?

I haven't made the move to WP2.7 since their new relases are always terrible, usually until the x.x.3 version at least.

But, from what I have read, others have made templates and used them in WP 2.7 without incident.

it might be an upload problem, CSS files need to be uploaded as ASCII... could be a permission problem, if the file is owned by the wrong user, it could fail...

Hard to say without more specific information.

Nope!

Everything uploaded properly.

I really should hire myself out as a "Jonah". If it's going to go wrong...............!

It just shows a blank space where the screenshot should be and no info.

Well, with no screen shot and no "info", I would argue thatone of two things is wrong.

1. The files aren't there.

2. The files are not correctly "formatted", either they have incorrect permissions, they are 'owned' by the wrong user or they are sitting in a zip file or were unzipped on the server incorrectly.

Without direct access to the files, via FTP and via Wordpress, there isn't any more I can tell you.

Your other option is to zip upall your theme files and email them to me at info AT stuntmusic DOT com and I will try to load them on one of my systems to check the files.

After a little experimenting and comparing different style.css files I found the problem.
As this was just a "play" template to see how it all worked on my blog I just named the template "1".
It would appear that Wordpress is expecting a longer name as I renamed it to "Robin" and it now shows up fine!
Perhaps this little tip could be added to the FAQ's to warn people that this might happen if they provide too short a name for the theme?

Wordpress 2.7 works fine and the admin site manager cant be better!
I had no issues as stated here...

I would dare say the issue is with Wordpress, not Artisteer.

The template name, while generated in and by Artisteer, is read and handled by the Wordpress code.

Oh Yes!

On reflection: Over the very short time that I have had this software I have to say that I am very impressed by its performance.

The reason that I am considering it is that I need to produce themes/templates for Wordpress easily, I have a few needs that others might or might not need, for instance I need to be able to place my own images in the header of a size that I can dictate. The software will not allow you to do this BUT I can change the Header.jpg and style.css to my requirements without any problem.

Also as a fairly large Wordpress hosting company I can now also offer custom templates to my customers if I decide to do so.

The new Wordpress version as you say is not without its challenges but I have managed to work around them so far, as with this one.

The Artisteer software has been a revelation to me and I only wish that I had found it before. Drilling down through Google paid dividends on this score at least!

Now that I know that the software will fulfill my needs I will purchase and get to remove the "trial" images.

Do you know if anybody has considered "Adsense" or other advertising options on the page builder?

I haven't moved to WP 2.7 so I haven't used that feature. I think adding that kind of functionality is where WP has a weakness. They are trying to add plugin features to the base code when it is better left to plugin developers.

That being said, about half of my Wordpress-centric clients monetize their sites using some form of Adsense, text link or other outbound linking ad programs.

Robin this is done easily with widgets and plugins in Wordpress.

Dan,

I believe Adsense is now part of the base code in WP 2.7

Yes I know and I'm sorry if I give the wrong impression here.

I use for instance smartads, which is fine but I like to control my advertising without plug-ins so I tend to add to templates.

Some of my blogs have Amazon, Google, Blinx and others so I just thought that it might be nice to include these sort of ads in the template, all in all though it would probably be better to just adapt templates to suit.

The problem with plug-ins is that you have to upload them, activate them and configure them. Consider doing that with ten sites per day along with everything else you have to do to get a blog up and running for a customer.

One day, in the perfect world we will be able to clone sites and just upload them to the new servers, and everything will work perfectly from the outset!

Robin,

You can certainly add code to the assembly language of Artisteer that includes the functionality you want. That functionality (be it in the sidebar, content area, footer, etc) can all be edited into the code, but, once you do that, now you are adding things to Wrodpress that aren't exactly 'kosher', basically you are stepping out of the bounds of Wordpress. if that code were to be broken, you might not catch it on the first 10 templates you make... but you'd still have to go back and fix it.

There is a pretty good reason to use the plug in technology, given that your site continues to function (usually) if a plug in doesn't work.

Yup.

I see your point!

At least if my customers use plug-ins they can disable them if things go wrong, and they always seem to!

And it will be their choice of course!

As per usual I am trying to over complicate things, you would think that after 35 years in the business I would have learned but I still try to push the envelope ALL the time.

I did that for a long time, try to add as much as possible ahead of time, always wound up over complicating it.

Right now, when I set up a new "hosting" service, I have a skeleton that automatically populates the site with wordpress and the other tools I might employ for their site. no muss no fuss. Preloaded with the plugins I usually use, all I do is set up the DB, run the installer and bingo, it's done. Even with a default template other than the ones that come with WP.

Usually, I hardly ever had to add anything once it's done, other than the clients custom designs.

Less is more as far as I am concerned, took me a long time to learn it tho!

Robin I am actually experiencing the same issue with my ads. I haven't created a site with Artisteer in a few months. I was automatically forced to use wordpress 2.7 as per my host and when I add my adsense code to a text widget I get a balnk/error slot instead of the google adsense ad. I however have not been able to figure out how to fix it. I tried changing the name on the Artisteer generated theme but that didnt work.

Anyone else experiencing anything similar? Any feedback would be appreciated.
